YEPI Founder Amani Katana, Featured on National TV.

Local youth-led organization, Youth Empowerment Program Initiative popularly known as YEPI has gained national attention from The Nation Media Group, the largest private media house in East and Central Africa. YEPI Founder, Amani Katana was featured on NTV Youth Series edition on August, 8 2018 to talk about his efforts to empower young people in Mombasa on entrepreneurship and proper waste management practices. This is the first time YEPI was featured on national television.

“I grew up in Mombasa from a very humble beginnings. I started YEPI because I saw a need here in Mombasa; Youth Unemployment, poverty and violent extremism. This state disturbs Mombasa County politically, economically and socially which leads in crime, poverty, drug abuse and violent extremism. So, I decided to resign from the maritime industry in order to follow my passion for social entrepreneurship and service to the community and I’m thrilled that thousands of people have learned about the great work we are doing to inspire youth to be agents of change in their community.” Said Amani.

Founded in 2014, YEPI has trained over 500 youth in Mombasa on entrepreneurship skills and increased access to mentorship for over 2000 marginalized youth and women. The objective of YEPI is to empower, inspire and enable economic opportunities for young people by training them on entrepreneurship, leadership and environmental conservation. YEPI promotes three models designed to identify and empower young people; The Governors Startup Challenge, Social Empowerment & Entrepreneurship Development (SEED) and the YEPI Community. We have grown into an organization recognized by young people across the continent. YEPI and its Founders leverages on social media following of over 30,000 to impact and inspire young people all over Africa.

YEPI! The SEED program empowers young people through entrepreneurship skills, mentorship and pitching.

Amani is also the founder and CEO of Garb Tech, which is seeking to launch 3 Garbage Sorting and Recycling Centers in Mombasa by the year 2020.
