YEPI Alumni, Ken Gitonga Wins the Pwani Innovation Week Prize!

An E- Bursary mobile application platform, developed by Ken Gitonga works to improve bursary allocation and quality education for students who need it the most. Started in Mombasa, the e-bursary platform has now helped more than 800 students across Kenya to receive bursary.

The E-Bursary received the 2018 Pwani Innovation Week Prize by 1000 Alternatives, an organization that support profit driven innovations generating positive social impact. In return for equity, 1000 Alternatives will provide access to its global advisers, a 4-month incubation program with the support of Early Bird, monetary investment and a host of other in-kind investment towards taking the social enterprise to profit and scale. The prize is awarded to social enterprises focused on improving the quality of student achievement across the coastal counties using cutting edge and innovative technology-driven pedagogy that can be replicated at scale.

Ken Gitonga, a YEPI Alumni and also the 2018 Governors Startup Challenge Winner, will use the $3500 prize to expand into more areas in Kenya.

Ken’s story was also featured on Business Daily. Read more about the App that ensures deserving students obtain bursaries.
